Abstract
This article
aimed at exploring the economic and social development at the local level. Regional development emerged because of
the assumption that national development was not effective to meet the needs of
the citizens living in an administrative region in the context of regional
development. The problem was that the local governments had not been able to
carry out the development in accordance with the local people’s wishes. The
question is then how do we motivate economic and social development at the
local level? The development and community empowerment were largely determined
by the skill of the society and also must be supported by adequate
infrastructure. Not only did
the empowerment include the strengthening of
individual members of society, but also include the institutions. Instilling
the values of
modern culture, e.g: hard work, discipline, obeying the principle, time
obedience, saving, openness, responsibility
were the basic
part of empowerment.
